So I love my job. Love, love, love it. I get to motivate people and get them excited about their lives. I get to give people the gift of more productivity in their jobs and more confidence in themselves and even in their relationships. I get to give people the gift of health and higher quality of life.
Right now I work independently. So I go into people's homes and teach them to use the things around them in their most convenient environment.
But I also have a membership at the Y. And every once in awhile I will get a free 7-day pass at another local gym just so I can "spy" on their trainers and see what kind of fun things their gym is up to. It keeps me fresh since I don't work in a gym and keeps me excited about my job. I also like to act dumb and get fitness advice. That's my favorite. It's both comical and informative.
On Tuesdays at 9 I have a group of ladies that I run with in summer and swim with in winter and today I was late. I was 40 min. late, actually. So I go in and swim for 40 min. and then head up to the gym to do my strength stuff. When I finished it was after 11am. As I walked up to grab my kiddos, I noticed a lady that I remember from previous weeks as being in the swim class that meets from 9-10 on Tuesdays (something totally different than what we do, but in the same pool). I asked her what she was still doing here and she said, "oh, this is my Tuesday...I swim from 8:30 - 11am." EVERY TUESDAY. And I've seen her in that pool. She doesn't sluff off. She proceded to tell me that on other days of the week she works just as hard in other areas of the Y. She then pointed to her body and said, "I have a lot of catching up to do." So I did it. I gave a total stranger a hug. A side hug, but a hug. "Way to go!" I said. "Good for you!" Not the most eloquent of responses. But I was really shocked that I had just hugged a total stranger. I should have said how excited I was for her. I should have said that I KNEW her hard work would pay off if she would just stick with it.
Well, I never even got this woman's name. But I left the Y smiling and ridiculously proud of a total stranger.
"Way to Go!"
