I'm sitting here reading my FITNESS MATTERS magazine. This is a monthly publication put out by my certifying agency the American Council on Exercise.
Here are the things I'm learning:
* A study just came out that found that those who keep food diaries DOUBLE the weight loss of ordinary dieters. Perhaps that's why weight watchers is so effective. As a trainer, I am not a dietitian and I typically start every client relationship informing them of this. But for my clients who REALLY want to lose the weight, I always recommend they use a food diary (because diet really is 60% of it). However, of my clients that have started this method, few have been consistent or complete. Maybe I'll push this a little harder.
* In 2007, Americans spent more money on candy, snacks and soft drinks than on fresh produce. Candy, snacks, soft drinks: $69,145,000 Fresh Produce: $66,694,000 I'll bet a lot of that is spent on one night of the year. Blasted Halloween. Caden gets Halloween candy every time he goes poo poo in the potty. I think he'll be 5 before he uses it all up.
* Probiotic foods (Kashi Vive, Dannon's Activia, Attune Wellness Bars) cost 30% more than their non-probiotic counter parts and may be a waste of your money. Every body's need for those bacteria is different but for most of us, we'd have to eat that stuff several times a day, every day to make any difference in our GI's. They're very sneaky with their advertising...don't fall for it. "Much of the research conducted to date has been funded by the very companies poised to profit from the findings." Interesting.
* "Kids who eat meals while watching television consume 228 more calories than those who eat without the television on." Enough said.
*Children should participate in one hour or more of aerobic activity per day.
I took a Yoga class today. I'm feeling very limber!
Have a healthy day!!

Good stuff! I lost a lot of weight (28 lbs) with weight watchers, but now with 3 busy kids journaling is very hard. Some people use their blackberry/palm to keep up with it on the go and there are several on-line programs that are palm compatible.
